May 12th: On the City Wall

After a lazy start, we headed for the City Walls. They’re complete, about 2.5 km round or so, but they take quite a while. They’ve a one way system in place, so we headed from the main starting point down towards the coast. The walls have clearly had some repair work done on them, but mostly seemed sympathetically restored; only a few sections of concrete wall (which may well have just been to prevent errant tourists falling off), the surface is worn smooth, some sections have steep steps, so care was needed. Judging by the roofs we saw, there had been a lot of restoration work in the town, I’m sure last time I was here, more roofs were damaged. Only a few buildings were still ruined, one wonders if the owners couldn’t afford the repairs, or if they’ve been left to remind visitors of the recent past.
Back to the hotel for a lazy evening
